Game fishing tours from Phi Phi Island are a good way to experience something different and have an exciting day out on the sea. Boats charters are available for boats of varying sizes for half or whole day charters with all the equipment and bait provided. Look for sign board along the walkway in Ton Sai Bay. Trips normally include soft drink, lunch and fish tackle.

If you are a good or lucky fisherman there is even the chance to recover some of the cost of the day. At one boat office I read: "If you catch a fish you can either have it cooked at your hotel, or we will sell it for you in the market, splitting the proceeds with the skipper." However, for many of the larger prize fish, game fishing operators follow an environmental and conservation friendly catch and release policy.

The Andaman Sea around the Phi Phi Islands is home to all the classic prize fighters of the fish world. Black Marlin, Sailfish, Tuna and Shark. Mangrove estuaries and shallow island reefs are home to numerous species of light-tackle game fish including sea bass, barracuda, giant trevally and mangrove jack.

Late November is a good time to go after marlin, tuna and any number of other fighting fish. By this time, the monsoons have settled and the fish are biting.

At certain times of the year, the hunt for sailfish is as good here as anywhere in the world. Sailfish are present throughout the whole year, however, from June to October during the rough seas of the southwest monsoon, there is always a respectable catch.

Tuna are common and there are several varieties; Yellowfin, Dogtooth, Skipjack, Mackerel, Longfin and Eastern Little Tuna. Wahoo are plentiful during the monsoon season as well as Narrow Barred Mackerel (Tenggiri).

Sharks of several species can also be found. There are big Tigersharks, Bullsharks and Reef sharks. Other species of game fish include Dorado, Rainbow Runner, Blue Finned Trevally, Cobia and a variety of bottom fish.
